Sunbeams

Hellebore

Although poisonous, a welcome sight at this time of year when there is not much colour in the garden.  This plant used to be used in the treatment of depression, insanity, worms and to induce vomiting.  The roots are especially poisonous and can be fatal if ingested.  Skin irritation may occur if the plant is handled a lot without gloves.  It originates from Europe and Asia and is a member of the Ranunculaceae (buttercup) family.  There are several gloomy stories and legends from the past but I love it!

Shopping in town this morning.  Many of the shops are still closing down including our one and only department store.  Some of the disabled parking is disappearing and a couple of the one way routes are now barred with tubs of flowers - what is happening?!
