Masai

This picture of a Masai woman was painted by an award winning artist from The Lake District, Kate Bentley. It was painted early in her career, and is quite different from her current work. The picture came to us through a family connection and takes a prominent position in our living room. She is quite a presence.
When we first arrived for a two year stint in Nairobi in 1972 we were confused to see the Masai women with shaved heads and thought at first they were men. But of course they were festooned with these intricate bead necklaces.
