Battened down

Rough weather means indoor jobs so I've been prepping another batch of lacto-fermented (salt-brine) pickles. There's a jar of sliced mooli, carrot and red onion and another of grated mooli, carrot and cabbage. They'll spend a few weeks  gently bubbling in their self-burping jars as the bacteria get to work and then they'll be ready to share their crunchy pro-biotic goodness with our digestive systems and very delicious they are. Of course if you're not used to them they can cause a bit of wind.

The power went off for an hour yesterday but apart from that there have been no untoward consequences of the stormy weather. Truth to tell I was sorry it came back on so soon as I was looking forward to lighting the old paraffin lamps once again. With an open fire for warmth and bottled gas for cooking there's no real hardship in being without electricity for a while.
