well, well!

This afternoon we had a wee expedition out to St Queran's Well, a couple of miles south of Dumfries.

St Queran was a 9th century Scottish saint. His well was reputed to have water with healing qualities, especially for women and children. When the well was cleaned out in 1870, hundreds of 16th century coins were recovered from it.

As you can see, the trees around the well are used as "clootie trees"

We had a surprise when we looked down into the well...see the extra :-)
