Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta)

After a wonderful week at Etukhuleni in the Limpopo province we had to leave for home again. For the whole week we were there we were looking for hippos and crocodiles. This morning though they came to say goodbye. Unfortunately my photos were not too good. So the next best is the Hamerkop. We watched the male and female building their huge nest on the other side of the river where we stayed. Huge nest but relatively small bird. This morning only the male was at the waterfront so I presume he is looking for something to eat for his darling sitting on the eggs. Would have loved so see the little ones. But 'welcome to the real world' tomorrow is back to normal again.
