More from Nottingham and Atlanta. Scarily enough the defining feature of my day has to be getting stuck in a snowy skateboard bowl this morning, shortly after taking the photo on the left. I went in to rescue the dog and then couldn't get out. Katie had to go and fetch Tom, still laying in his bed playing x-box and enjoying the fact that his school had been shut by the weather, so that he could pull me out. Jeez. Tom's comment: "at least you'll have something to tell mum about when she skypes!" And indeed I did. Oh, how we (well, she) laughed...! I don't think anything particularly comedic happened to Beck after taking her picture...

Anyway, MisterPrime's Soul Week choice for Monday is a 1970 long-playing classic from the Atlantic vaults. 'Doin' What We Wanna', by Clarence Wheeler and the Enforcers, is a real product of it's time and all the better for it: chock full of consciousness-vibes, syncopated JB's horn riffs, blaxploitation-noir, jazz-fusion, an extended Beatles cover ('Hey Jude') and even an unapologetic burst of late-night bossa nova. Especially fabulous is the amazing organ-work; from high-end cinema Wurlitzer down to deep, fat purple Jon Lord rumbles - it just bathes the whole endeavour in enough warm soulful bottom end glow to toast the chilliest of winter cockles.
