Birch Light

The branch of the fallen birch caught my eye in the dappled light of the late afternoon sun. Grass tangled in amongst the branches, a rich golden colour in the yellow sunlight.

It's tough going in snow hardened by many freeze/thaw cycles, unexpectedly breaking through the crusty surface takes its toll on the legs after a while.

We don't have many birch trees, so I'm disheartened to see one on the ground. I expect the soil is not firm enough in the marsh to hold them.

I also posted for yesterday today.
