Grasmere

Although the rain abated overnight the winds didn’t. There were glimpses of brightness in the skies and for brief moments the sun made an appearance.

This didn’t last as we were treated to blustery, squally showers with hail at times as we completed the Rydal - Grasmere walk along Loughrigg Terrace and the Coffin Route. We ventured up Loughrigg itself only to find the wind unpleasant so we beat a strategic retreat.

Lots of people out, many not in the right gear either. Too many trainers and wet trousers for my liking and one or two without maps who asked for directions.

There was plenty of water around, the main road between Windermere and Grasmere were flooded in places mainly from the lake but also from streams and torrents cascading off the fields.

Despite the conditions we rather enjoyed ourselves today.
