Lunesdale Bakery Range

As journeys up the M6 go, this was no worse than expected. There are, of course, long sections of 50 mph running owing to conversion to the somewhat discredited Smart Motorways.

Heavy rain was the order of the day north of Manchester with the spray adding to the challenging conditions. And it is still raining heavily with gusty winds in Bowness.

As has become a tradition when staying in the south lakes that we stop for a late hot lunch at the Lunesdale Bakery in Kirkby Lonsdale where today’s blip of the open and very welcome fire was taken.

I was expecting to have soup and jacket potato as usual. Previous customers had eaten all the spuds so I had a Croque Madame which was excellent as was the Scotch Broth. The Croque Madame was made with toasted rye and spelt sourdough with Guinness and chilli black pudding, smokey bacon spinach and a Swiss cheese sauce. Susan had the minted lamb pie of the day which she reported was excellent.
