Dinner chez Rory's supervisor

Running from office to office at our Fahrerlaubnisbehörde appointments to get German driver's licences before all the Brexit malarky comes into place, at 6.30 we thought we had time to get a present for Rory's supervisor who we would have dinner with that evening.

Without time to go anywhere else, we scrutinised bottles of wine at Lidl. Rory's supervisor is an American lady, married to an Italian who is head of the department. Knowing that they once shipped a case of Argentinian wine over to Germany, I strongly advised Rory to not buy her wine. Buy flowers instead! That's a lovely present for a dinner party and they can enjoy them the rest of the week. Tulips are in season!

Char, forget the flowers, I'm not buying her flowers - which wine should we get. 15 euros was the most expensive one.

The dinner party was a hoot. They had cooked three different types of risotto, my favourite one was very dark and bitter. We had two bottles of delicious wine, and then came the third bottle of wine. "I must apologise for this one, it should be good because the region and year are usually good for this wine". It still tasted fine to us, but we glanced at eachother and thought - please don't open our bottle then!!

There was another hilarious moment where a guest from Taiwan said, "no, no more fine for me please", to which the host (who is also her boss) poured her an enormous glass and her eyes became huge in astonishment. We discussed politics, Ötzi, and the history of Taiwan until late and got the S-bahn home.
