Iraq and Bridge-of-Allan?

What has Iraq and the Victorian spa town of Bridge-of-Allan got in common?

Well, it's the fountain of Nineveh built in 1851, an oddity or whimsy on the part of the owner of the Westerton Estate.

It was to commemorate the excavations going on at the time at the site of the original Nineveh (on the River Tigris in modern day Iraq).

The water no longer flows through the fountain but it ha been repainted in recent years.
