Fat Tuesday - Shrove Tuesday

We were in town today, enjoying a late breakfast at the new lunch café in the library. This is the building I used to work in and it has many good memories so I'm always happy to be here, but especially so on a day when the sun is shining through the southern wall of glass. Outside the glass is the town park, and just across the park, seen in silhouette, another building I used to work in!
Inside, there is a fine drama of light and shade on such a day.
Included in the lunch we bought today was a "semla" (or two), usually translated as a "Fat Tuesday Bun". That is because today is "Fat Tuesday" and all of Sweden will be eating these buns, filled with a mix of  crumbs, marzipan, and cream, just as many people in the UK will be making pancakes.  Jan has blipped these buns and written more so take a look at HarlingDarling's blip for more information.
If you feel like baking these spicy, sweet buns here is a recipe.
