This morning we visited the Nelson Mandela Exhibition on the third floor of the Shopping Mall. We were fortunate that the exhibition started only a few days ago on 21st February 2020 and finishes on 20th July 2020
The exhibition documents the life of Nelson from cradle to grave. He was born on the 18th July 1918 and died 95 years later on 5th December 2013.
He was given the nickname The Black Pimpernel by news reporters during his period in hiding from 1961 to 1962. He was finally surrounded and gave himself up and was imprisoned on 7th November 1962 and spent a total of 27 years 6 months and 6 days in prison. He was finally released on 11th February 1990.
It was interesting following his life especially as we had visited Robben Island where he spent most of his time in prison. It was a large Exhibition with lots to see and a great deal to read we spent a good three hours looking round before leaving for a bite of lunch.
We then visited a Tourist Information office so Ros could get more information on things to see and do in Johannesburg. Afterwards we headed off to catch the Gautrain to Kempton Park where we stayed the night in readiness to catch the morning flight to Livingstone in Zambia.
