The day dawned grey and later unfolded into a stunningly sunny and beautiful spring day. Portland's neighborhoods are aglow with the fleeting and fragile beauty of the cherry blossom. 

The cherry blossom has an ancient and multi-layered meaning. Sakura is the name for cherry blossom in Japanese.
