We had breakfast in our usual café with the same old stale cake but at least the coffee is the best in town.
After breakfast we visited the Livingstone Museum directly over the road from the café. We had a good chat to the girl on the desk about all the problems that face Zambia from the doubling cost of maize caused by the continuing drought to the problem of youngsters coming out of university with huge student loans with no prospect of a job.
Entering the museum was like walking back in time as all the exhibits were displayed in old dark wooden cabinets with faded description cards. The content was good though and showed the evolution of Africa from the stone age right up to the modern day. There was a whole hall in honour of Doctor David Livingstone who discovered and named Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria. His name was also given to the town. Dr Livingstone rose with hard work from a lowly background in Scotland to become one of the greatest explorers of his time. On one expedition he was attacked and mauled by a lion but his most famous incident was when by misfortune he lost his way in the jungle and was assumed dead. An American journalist named Henry Morton Stanley set out to find him. Their paths crossed in the jungle and as a result the rest is history with Stanley uttering the immortal words 'Doctor Livingstone I Presume'.
We enjoyed our morning in the museum but could not believe the stench of body odour which eminated from a group of young school children. Boy and girl did they ronk. It was so bad that we literally could not be in the same room as the stench made us heave. It was awful.
After a snack lunch Ros embarked on a buying spree at the row of craft stalls lining part of the main street. The vendors did not know what had hit them as Ros made her way from stall to stall in search of a bargain. She was in her0 element haggling to the last Zambian Kwacha. She won some she lost some but ended up with just what she wanted at a good price.
We finished the afternoon by the pool watching as new guests who worked for a subsidiary of an American company arrived for a weekend conference. They all ended up splashing about in the pool.
We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant again and enjoyed yet another exceptional meal.
