Crane hook

The sun was out.. again! Decided on a walk along Channel side as it wasnt too windy..and it's not far from Tesco. 

Lots of daisies are growing on one of the grassy areas.. they've defied winter and been growing there right through from last summer. 
 
The new area in  front of the Dock Museum is looking lush and green although the 5 pine trees are looking a bit wind burnt. I hope they survive. 

My blip shows a crane hook which was part of a 4 tonne crane which had been in use since the 2nd World War. 

There used to be a lot of cranes built along the dock sides. They were used to lift heavy machinery etc into the ships.
I could see them from my classroom window looking very photogenic  silhouetted against a winter sunset. 
They were part of Barrows skyline for more than a century and  it was an end of an era when the last one was removed in 2018. 

The base of one of the cranes remains so that a memorial plaque could be left in situ. The plaque is in memory of 2 fire watchers who lost their lives in May 1941 brought down by enemy air attack
