The rare Canadian Snow Roller, in its habitat

Well this rare weather surprise met me this morning. The wind gets so strong that it starts to roll up the snow into balls, like you would build a snowman. Wet snow is heavy but you need it a bit wet so that you can pack it into a ball. So the wind being strong enough to lift it is rather amazing.

“A snow roller is a rare meteorological phenomenon in which large snowballs are formed naturally as chunks of snow are blown along the ground by wind, picking up material along the way, in much the same way that the large snowballs used in snowmen are made.”

I’ve only seen it once before.
Now you have too.

Carry on.
