Parabolic

We remember this strange building at Markham Moor on the A1 from many years ago when it was a Little Chef and we took our children there. It was built in the 1950s by Lincolnshire architect, Sam Scorer, who designed Markham Moor as a petrol station with an elaborate and distinctive parabolic roof. Later it was taken over by Little Chef. On the demise of Little Chef it was closed and for many years was just a sad, derelict, but still distinctive, building. It had been Grade ll listed, so never demolished. After many years it has now been rescued and is a Starbucks outlet. It was very strange going in today.

And just why were we down the A1 . . . yet again. Well our destination was Peterborough Services - how can one have as a destination something which is only a place for a break. You can in some circumstances.

When we were travelling up from Kent on Tuesday we stopped at Peterborough Services and Gordon managed to leave a bag. Now this bag had nothing much in it of vital importance - the Guardian, some apples, his hat and his ancient iPad, but it was a concern nevertheless. When we got home and discovered the loss, the miraculous ‘Find My iPad’ kept registering it as being still in Peterborough Services and eventually Gordon got to speak on the phone to the Site Manager who had the bag in his store. We could have arranged for a currier service, but suddenly today we decided to take our posh car out and drive down there. We did manage lunch and a walk at NT Belton House, near Grantham and then, bag retrieved, we set off home. Just another of those little adventures!

(I like using the location map facility on Blipfoto, but am amazed at how, if you are using an iPhoto image, it immediately locates it . . .astonishing.)
