Life in Sunny Dubai

Been to Sharjah

It's taken me AGES to decide on my blip today!

Went to Northern Emirate Sharjah today to pick up a "water-cooker" otherwise known as a kettle. Ended up getting quite a number of other cool things including a set of knives, champagne flutes, and some much needed everyday dinnerware.

Sharjah has some rather gorgeous public buildings so we made a special trip out to this place - The Blue Souk. Built in the late 70s; it was the first smart Souk this country had (yes, even before Dubai!!) and for the longest time, the prettiest! At one time, this was the only place to buy a top quality Persian rug.

We got there at the worst time of the day to take outdoor pictures, but the sky doesn't look too bad. Had a little wander round and saw these amazing dresses. I'm not one to wear a dress at all, but I can tell an amazing one when I see it! I have to say, Sharjah has really strict decency laws and you could never be seen in anything like this unless in a private home/function. Even men are encouraged to always wear long trousers when out in public.

It is a public holiday tomorrow, so long weekend for us. Yipee!
