Sid Valley Ring

I was out with the local walking group on the first part of a new walking route around Sidmouth known as the Sid Valley Ring.  A fair number of us turned up probably persuaded by the dry weather forecast and a need to get outdoors.  We set off from Sidbury climbing up to White Cross and Fire Beacon Hill from where this shot was taken.

The rain held off as we descended around the western side of Sidmouth skirting behind the large supermarket and down various roads when we came to an abrupt stop.  In front of us was a large expanse of flood water.  The leader duly walked through and another in wellies followed I and a few more followed suit with the water quickly reaching above our boots.  Looking back to take the shot in extras I saw that the rest of the group rather wisely were searching for a detour.  This they found and joined us a few minutes later.  We then walked along Bickwell Valley discovering the most expensive areas of Sidmouth before returning into the town for our lunch.  An interesting walk probably best done with better visibility and no flood waters.
