River Dart

A day of mixed weather and we headed to Buckfast for a recee of a walk I intend to lead with the walking group.  We started at the Abbey and headed into Buckfastleigh an interesting small market town with a very large old mill in the centre.  Climbing up to the remains of the 12th Century Holy Trinity church where we sheltered from the rain, see extra. It suffered from an arson attack in 1992.  We then returned to the Abbey during several short bursts of rain although the sun was also shining which doesn't make it seem so bad.

Next we climbed up to Hembury Woods to the hillfort for lunch and then followed various footpaths down to the River Dart which was very full and flowing quickly.  It was then a climb back up the hillside to the Abbey and a cup of tea.  It should be an interesting walk with lots of variety.
