Sheila

A short trip down to Dollar Park this afternoon to visit the statue of Camelon-born Sheila McKechnie in honour of International Women's Day.

Sheila McKechnie was a director of Shelter, a charity that campaigns against homelessness and for better housing conditions, and then of the Consumers' Association. A tireless campaigner for employee rights and consumer rights, she was awarded an OBE in 1994, made a Dame in 2001 and died in 2004, aged 55.

This bronze bust was erected in Dollar Park in 2006
