Birding

The big tree over the back fence was filled with these birds this morning, singing their little hearts out. It took me awhile to find the key to the puzzle--can you see the telltale tiny red bar on one wing towards the center of the image? That makes them cedar waxwings! I don't think I've ever seen them here before. I wonder if they're on their way somewhere. It's interesting to see such a big flock.

That was early this morning. Around noon I noticed a hawk in the same tree, minus the waxwings. I've never seen a hawk in the neighborhood either; all my other raptor sightings have been over by the ocean.
