Sheltering

Tough decisions have had to be discussed today about what we do and where we go in the coming weeks.  We had a lovely Skype with Becky and Euan and, with her medical research background, she put several things in perspective.  It's all about lessening the impact on the health services for those folks who will need them, by not placing ourselves and others at risk.

Thankfully, the schools event was sensibly cancelled today, so I could enjoy my breakfast in bed and my new book, 'Hidden Figures'.  Since then we've had a quiet day.  I've just taken a turn around St Ives to the pond with my duck food to get some air, which is where I blipped this youngster sheltering from the sudden heavy squall.  He had a handful of food in thanks for posing for me.

Positive News
Continuing with yesterday's Hope 100, today I have chosen three folks/organisations working for positive change, this time from the Society section.  No. 21 is Bristol's Mayor, Marvin Rees the first black mayor of a UK city.  I heard him being interviewed recently and was impressed with his vision for tackling inequalities in Bristol through a six point plan: connectivity; economy; health and wellbeing; homes and communities and learning and skills.  His targets are based on the UN's sustainable development goals.  Look him up!
No 26 is Goldsmith Street in Norwich.  This is a development of 100 traditional council homes, leased on secure tenancies and fixed rents.  The homes have been built to Passivhaus standards of energy efficiency.
No 37 is the Community Fridge Network which has 80 community fridges throughout the UK where surplus food can be donated and used by those who don't have enough.  'The fridges encourage a spirit of sharing and can help strengthen community bonds.' says a spokesperson from Hubbub, the organisation that helps to run them
