Life through the lens...

Leighton Moss

After a very hearty breakfast we set off to RSPB Leighton Moss, just a couple of miles away.
Although not sunny it was bright and the wind was not as bad as forecast.
What a fabulous place. Not a huge amount of birds about, and the light wasn’t good for photography. However I liked this photo of the teal, taken from the Causeway hide, especially as there were two snipe hiding in the reeds, fast asleep.
Other highlights were;
A pair of Goldeneye
Marsh harrier
Tree creeper ( very close, but too quick for a photograph )
Nuthatch
Water rail ( again close but poor photos)
The owl sculpture in the dead tree. ( see extra)

The paths were under water in places, but we managed to wade through in our walking boots.
We couldn’t get to the Eric Morecambe hide as the tide was very high, so hope to go there tomorrow.

We then drove to Arnside where we parked on the front, and walked to the Coast Guard Station. Couldn’t get further because of the high tide.
Unfortunately it then started raining, and after a walk along the other way, we returned to the car as it was pouring down.
Eventually it almost stopped and we went to the Wagtail deli for tea and cakes. A delightful place.

By now it had cleared a bit, and so we drove up to Arnside Knot. The weather wasn’t good, and there were none of the wonderful views we had hope for.
Still we could see across the Kent estuary to Grange - over - Sands . (See extra photo)

A very nice drive back to Silverdale on a rather narrow road. Wonderful views of Morecambe Bay. What we could see of it as visibility still wasn’t good.

Finished off the day with a delicious meat and potato pie and chips at the Silverdale Hotel, which is where we are staying.

Back home tomorrow, but we will certainly be back to explore more if this beautiful area.
Hopefully with better weather next time.

Must say a big thank you to all your lovely comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s blip. Sorry I am behind with commenting, but will catch up later.
