Book Club

Handing back The Pinecone and handing out Alice Walker.
Some had not read the Pinecone because its a meticulously researched biography  of Sarah Losh 1785 - 1853, architect , designer , land owner and benefactor from Wreay near Carlisle.  Those of us who had ploughed through it were pleased we had because we learned a lot about all sorts of things other than Sarah Losh, from the Fibonacci sequence,  to the Afghan War in the 1840s, the alkali industry on Tyneside in the early 1800s and Carlisle's grand past.  Those who had not read it but came to book club enjoyed cake and learned from those of us who had read it.  Some did not read it and stayed away.
