Lent 2020 day 16

’Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’ (Colossians 3:23)

Gideon Heugh writes:

“In my experience, Christians can get a little too obsessed over the idea of ‘calling’. We can drive ourselves to distraction by constantly wondering what God’s purpose is for our lives.

Perhaps there is another, more helpful question you can ask yourself: what makes your soul sing?

The dreams, ideas and passions that we have are there for a reason. The things that move us most, the things that make us come alive – these are imprints of God. When we go after whatever it is that moves us most, we’ll probably find that God is already there, waiting for us.

Society, and I include Christian society in that, is often trying to tell us to do this or do that, be this or be that. But if we listen, perhaps we might hear God saying, ‘You are my child, so be yourself.’”
