tempus fugit

Spring is in the air

We all know that something else is too and we are all breathing it in willy-nilly.

It's tempting to wonder if Covid-19 is Planet Earth's way of demonstrating that if humanity cannot control the ecological crisis for which it is responsible then Mother Nature has ways of doing so. The pandemic has already resulted in  a massive reduction in air travel, industrial emissions and economic activity generally*, and will over the next few weeks wipe out a large portion of the world's (over) population. And as we re-accustom ourselves to remaining at, or close to, home and reduce our spending to vital necessities, we may also prioritize family  solidarity and community connections over unnecessary luxuries such as organised entertainment, shopping and overseas holidays. And Greta Thunberg has suggested a digital climate strike rather than meeting up at protest gatherings.**

I do hope everyone is coping as best they can in these troubling times.
Look around you for the signs of spring.
