First Go

My grandfather, Harold Stevens, joined the RFC in the 14-18 war, which then became the RAF.  He was an engineer between the wars, but joined the RAF again in 1939.

He managed to crash a DH2a (I think) in the first period of flying and I have his damaged goggles.  Before he retired he had been held by the Iraqis post King Faisal II, had designed a stamp (Ghana, locomotives) and been involved in the running of trains in several countries.

He died just before he made 100, in 1993; I wish I had asked him more questions before then, but I have a few albums with which to work out some of his life.
