Down by the riverside

Today's the day …………………….. for a lucky escape

About half an hour after I took yesterday's blip and Will and I had gone back to some gardening - there was the most almighty great noise on the road outside the house.

It was the noise of breaking wood and screams - not a good combination.  And when we rushed to the roadside we quickly saw that a car had crashed through the wooden fence just before the bridge over the River Dee.  Because we knew how steep it was to the river - and how far, it was with some trepidation that we looked down.  We could see the car way below half in the water - but incredibly there were two people, obviously alive and well, and able to get out of the car and begin to scramble up the embankment.

They were in shock and the driver was naturally very upset but they were young and resilient - and we did all we could to help them.  Eventually, the normal procedures swung into action.  The police came, statements were given and the young couple were returned into the care of their families.

This picture was taken today just before the huge recovery lorry managed to haul the car back up the slope and take it away - presumably for disposal.  It really was a miracle that no one had been injured or even killed.  And - how lovely - a ring at the doorbell this afternoon.  It was the young couple bringing flowers and chocolates to say thank you.

We were just glad that they were ok …………………….
