My Irish Connection

My grandfather was born in Galway, Ireland. This was his mother's wedding ring, about 160 years old.

I was given this gold Claddagh ring 50 years ago by a great aunt during my first visit to Ireland.  My great aunt's three daughters were all nuns and not permitted to have "worldly goods", so she had no candidates to pass the ring on to until I showed up.  I've treasured it and worn it constantly since then.  

Now that I have a grand daughter I won't share my great aunt's dilemma.
