Millennium

One of the few shots I took today - all photos of not-very-good photos, for a Facebook challenge, scenes of the pre-digital age (before I had a digital camera anyway)! Finding the photos I wanted involved looking through hundreds of mostly-unlabelled pictures. Lots of happy times with friends and family, all of whom seem a million miles away just now.

This was dancing in the street at the start of the millennium. Wakefield Morris dancers and friends (and my then neighbours) having fun! No doubt most of us were quite merry at the time!

In real time, today has been quite weird. During the day, quite a few groups of people on the High Street - they looked to be sightseeing rather than social distancing - and a few locals venturing out for shopping or to walk their dogs. By early evening, it was like a ghost town, absolutely deserted - exactly how it should have been. It will take a while to get used to the silence - we're used to hearing the distant chatter of people passing by and, when the pubs close, revellers returning home or to the campsite...
