Radnor House School, Twickenham

The school has occupied the building called Popes Villa since 2011. The other side of the building has gardens leading down to the Thames. There have been two previous schools, St James for a few years and St Catherine’s from 1919- about 2007. St Catherine’s is now in buildings across the road.

It has a blue plaque for Henry Labouchere ...see extras.

This is the location where the poet Alexander Pope lived from 1719 - 1744 however he has a blue plaque in the house where he was born in Lombard Street EC3. The original Popes Villa was demolished and rebuilt in about 1835. Popes Grotto partly remains and is accessed from this building. It is underground and only open a few days a year. There is a pub on the other side of the road called The Popes Grotto!
Labouchere lived there from1881-1903.

Day 4 activities

- went to daughters house to deliver some things and talked to the family including grand children from their garden
- watched the prerecorded church service for our local church. The vicar did a very good sermon
- went for a bike ride away from the Royal Parks and towpath which were very busy.

I have decided to try and visit as many blue plaques as possible within cycling distance of my house.
