Shimmering

Rain overnight filled the woodland pond, rippled by a stiff breeze under a cloudy sky. I tried a few shutter speeds, deciding 1/30 created the texture I was after. Texture applied to water may sound an inappropriate adjective, but it's always the image I'm thinking of, not the subject.

I cropped in after the fact, searching for just the right balance of light and dark to produce an interesting image. The trees required a lot of burning to avoid standing out like sore thumbs, which I felt important because they are such static elements. In retrospect I wish I had some separation between the two trunks.
