Life through the lens...

Lifting our spirits.

After being no further than the garden gate since last Tuesday, we decided to venture out, to one of our favourite places.
We were hoping that the road down to the river would still be open, and so armed with walking shoes, a flask of coffee and cake, we set off for Naburn Locks.
As well as lifting our spirits it gave the car a good run out too.

The M62 was certainly quieter than usual. The country lanes are always quiet, which is why we like to drive East from our house. No towns to drive through.

We were lucky, the road was open, although the caravan park we pass was closed.

We parked by the lock, and set off along the footpath.
Oh what joy.
Being by the river always has a calming effect, and we needed it today.
Sun shining, birds singing and peace.
In the distance we heard a curlew. and then our frist Chiff Chaff of the year.
Mr C spotted a butterfly. Another first. Actually saw several. All small tortoiseshell.  Only managed to get a shot of one, which looks a bit battered.
A boat passed by on the river heading for York.

This area was badly flooded not long ago, but apart from a couple of large puddles the foot path was dry.
Most of the fields have also dried out, and it was so good to see a farmer ploughing his field ready for the spring planting. ( see extra )

We only passed 3 people, and kept well away.
Also passed the lock keeper, who was painting some fencing,  and said a cheery " Hello " to one another. Again at least 8 feet away.
Noticed several workmen from the Canal and River Trust doing some maintenance to the locks.  They were on the other side of the canal.

The drive back was quiet too. First time for ages we have driven on the M62 when there have been no speed restrictions.

So back home.  Very thankful for today. Not sure when we will be able to go out again,
My blip just had to be a collage of a beautiful Spring day to remember.

Take care and stay safe.
