Never offend a stonemason!

My walking group had our final outing for while at Ceres, walking to Craighall Den. There were just five of us, and even so I found it hard to make sure I stayed 2m apart from three of them (Mrs P was allowed closer).

The history of this structure is too complex to give here, and I'm not sure I understand the different accounts. However the Toby jug figure is thought to be Rev. Thomas Buchanan, the last church provost of Ceres from 1578. I don't know if he was in on the joke or if he offended the stonemason James Howie in some way.

The panel beneath is thought to show "the turning point of the Battle of Bannockburn, Duncan breaking cover with his horsemen, sending the Sassenachs out drowning in the marshes".
