All of a Hover

This hoverfly is feeding on Greater stitchwort. Lesser stitchwort is smaller, has even more deeply notched flower petals and doesn’t bloom until June. Greater stitchwort loves the understory of hedegerows whilst it’s lesser relative prefers open grassland. Both reputedly could be taken as a cure for a stitch in the side.

While those on the front line are working extra shifts and long shifts, many of us are hovering; on pause, waiting for life to return to normality. And we will be on pause for quite some time yet. But what is normal? And do we really want everything back to how it was before? Already there are fewer planes, fewer cars and less pollution. There is more space for wildlife, more acts of kindness, more heroes. There is good emerging from the crisis and I hope we will emerge as better people, more respectful of our planet and all life on it.

In the meantime, we must look for little joys in life at home: a message, a call, a letter; a smile, a greeting, a thankyou; a favourite snack, a cup of tea, a hot meal; time to appreciate those around us and nature of course: the sun shining, Spring arriving, birds singing and bees buzzing.

Philosophy Friday
Keep looking for the humour in everyday life. The more you look the more you will find.
