The Old Rugged Cross

One of the family graves in our local cemetery has been my favourite since we moved here 5 years ago. One of the reasons is it reminds me of my maternal Grandma. The first time I saw it, I thought "Old Rugged Cross", the name of my Grandma's favourite hymn. So every time I see it I am reminded of her. And that is no bed thing.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true
It's shame and reproach gladly bear
Then he'll call me someday to my home far away
Where his glory forever I'll share
And I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
