Life is a Challenge!

An Old-Fashioned Butcher

This is my butcher, Richard - only took a few photographs today, one of which was a dog, which I am sure all dog-lovers would have enjoyed, but I decided on this one instead.

Richard is one of those people who remembers you - unlike the meat assistant in most other supermarkets, who let's face it, isn't really a butcher, but just sells meat and wouldn't know you from one week to the next!

Now Richard is different, he knows me, he knows what I like, and is always ready to explain different cuts of meat and how I can cook them. He always has a smile on his face - as do most of his staff - and if we don't buy our meat from small butchers, they will go under and the big boys will have won. In fact, that is true for any small business - we usually have to drive some way to get to a supermarket, as they are often on the outskirts of towns, on huge retail parks but the little butcher, baker, grocer and hardware store are often in the High Street - we just need to make sure we buy from them to keep them going. It may cost us a little more, but surely that's worth it to get a decent joint of meat.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your Sunday Roast!!
