The 1856 Road

The day started as I made the bread that had been rising all night in our cold hall. (See the extra).
We took a walk into the forest today, along this forest track. As we passed one of the last house along the road there is a stone planted in the garden (extra). Carved into the stone are three now indecipherable names and the date 1856. The stone marks the building of the road, which may have been a project to provide work in a time of hardship.
When there's no snow I quite often walk or cycle along this road but just now it's in that inbetween time when there's not enough snow to ski and a bit too much snow to walk, so we didn't go too far along here today. Next week maybe...
