behind the wheel

I last mentioned Luke exactly a month ago when we met up in Belfast after his visa interview at the American Consulate.

As for many people, his life has changed since then. It's unlikely that he will be going to see his girlfriend in May or taking up a summer job in New York State in June. He is still officially employed full time at the Sheraton Spa in Edinburgh, although the hotel closed in mid March. His flatmates (all from abroad) went home while they still could. Luke's response to lockdown? Taking only his wallet and phone, he cycled 90 miles to stay with us for the duration. We are enjoying his company and at least he has someone to speak to face to face, even if it is a parent. His tenancy in Edinburgh ends at the end of the month so I'm not sure how we will get all his belongings home, but that is a few weeks away, and a week is a long time just now.

Today Luke decided to clean his bike. When I went out on mine, he had taken his to bits.I hope he can put it back together again. Seems we are all learning new skills or brushing up on old ones...cutting hair, baking bread, growing vegetables, learning languages, videoconferencing...

I wish you all a peaceful and healthy weekend. It's Easter, Jim, but not as we know it.

Thank you all so much for the stars and hearts on our anniversary yesterday - made it into the popular pages, which is a first for me :-)
