A lot of local history

The lady who owns this house turned 100 earlier this year. Unfortunately having lost her sight and becoming rather infirm she had to move out. It must have been a wrench as she had been born in this house. At that time it had been three separate cottages  and had up to 25 people living in them. Over time the three had been knocked through to make one home and for many years, until she moved out, she was the only resident.
This lady was a fountain of local knowledge and stories. When she was young this house was in the middle of the village, next to the village green. The green is still there but is just the triangle at the end of our road. New houses were built by the council in the 1920's and 30's on Litcham road and gradually the old cottages near the green fell into disrepair, were abandoned and disappeared. Only two now remain and these have been renovated and updated .
All this information was given to me a few years ago whilst I chatted to her and eat her home made cake and drunk several cups of tea. Although she had lost her sight her mind was still sharp and she had a wicked sense of humour. Hopefully she will escape the affects of the current virus.
