Wide Wednesday . . . Local Landscape

When I walk up the hill behind my house the view is over the Waimea Plains and the Waimea Inlet.  Waimea means 'river garden' in the Maori language.  The free-draining alluvial plains are high in fertility and grow pip and stone fruit, berries, vegetables, hops and grapes.  So they are well named.  Behind them the Arthur Range rises up.  The sign in the picture is showing the high points of the range.  In winter there is sometimes snow on those tops.  The inlet is constantly changing with the state of the tide and the play of light. The houses are the streets of Richmond and maybe even the start of Stoke on the right hand side.  Once upon a time there were areas of horticultural land between Nelson, Stoke and Richmond but slowly the owners sold up and housing covered the land.  So that is my local landscape.  Thank you Freyjad for hosting.
