Garden gate and bamboo

A friend who works on one of the ferry routes between this island and the mainland is off because that route has been cancelled for now. She was outside so I called hello to her. She came over and we had a nice chat catching up with news about her and her husband. This is an old gate to their garden. The road is a very quiet rural one and we used to walk it often. We've walked there twice in the past two weeks. L's house is very close to the road, and she said that they can't believe the increase in traffic, speculating that people are looking for different places to walk since the parks were closed. There's an ecological reserve just up the road, and the last time we walked here, G wondered what had happened to the sign indicating that the area was a reserve. L said that Parks is advertising the area for trail walking and for viewing the waterfall that's up the road. Someone had removed the sign. She called a friend who's a ranger and he replaced the sign. Parks didn't want the sign there and had it removed. What's the point of having an ecological reserve then?  Isn't it supposed to be a protected area?
