Ravages of a drought

It was a long, hot and dry summer for some parts of New Zealand; when we were Kaikoura on the east coast of the south island it was quite obvious that this was one of those areas. The grass on the hills was a beautiful cream colour and down by the beach the vetches, sedum and other grasses and flowers were withering. All was quiet and slow as if stunned by the heat.

The extras show how dry the countryside was.
