Lych Gate

I have a feeling I may have blipped this before, but the lighting on the gate was particularly attractive this evening.  This lych gate is at the entrance to the parish graveyard.

I had never realised until I looked it up this evening that the name "lych gate" comes from an old English word for "corpse" and that the gate used to be somewhere where a corpse was sheltered until the funeral service began.

This lych gate hasn't been used in that way recently:  the graveyard is closed to new burials and has been for many years.
