Frankfurt to Atlanta

Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since we travelled beyond our house and garden, The NHS text telling J she was on the Shielding list changed everything, for her and for me.

Getting into new routines is taking time. We are getting there, but an adjustment like this doesn’t happen overnight.

I am also developing new obsessions. One of them is taking an interest in the air traffic above us. There are far fewer planes. But those that we do see are going to or coming from some very different places. Guadalajara, Willemstad, Cincinnati. And because we are having so many clear blue sky days, those few planes crossing our patch of sky are very obvious.

They are all cargo planes , or passenger planes being used to transport cargo. I am told that the focus is on moving medical supplies around the world, other air freight is having to wait.

A lot of the traffic is heading to and from Frankfurt, which is a big air freight hub. The Boeing 747 in this shot passed 30,000 feet above us at 7pm. It belongs to Magma airlines, and was en route from Frankfurt to Atlanta.

Two new birds to add to our shielding list today, kestrel and sparrow-hawk. The kestrel was being mobbed by a group of 8 starlings? The area’s defence force. And I was alerted to the female sparrow hawk by alarm calls - ones the birds use specifically to warn of birds of prey, so a distinctive sound.
