Rock 'n Roll

Emergency Blip today as I had to go into repair man mode again. Not a computer this time but our tumble drier that suddenly started making a horrible rattling & scraping noise.

Examination revealed that the drum was rocking around loose from it's mounting and rolling around inside the casing. (Sorry for the weak pun!)

We have a very useful shop near here called Reddispares that is always happy to give advice to amateurs and in this case they immediately diagnosed a worn drum bearing and sold me the parts to fix it (as well as instructions on how to do it).

It was quite a simple job to replace the bearing assembly which was not just worn but had broken in half. Here you can see the spindle neatly broken off the back plate. The hook shaped item on the right is the worn bearing. It should have a round hole in the middle instead of which one side has completely disappeared.

The drier is now running smoothly and is as good as new - all for £15 (+ my labour charge of course!)
