Orchid - Galearis Spectabilis

This is a wild orchid that is - bless its heart - blooming on our property - not at all far from our front door. It's under a pine tree, just off the front "lawn." It's name is Showy Orchis, or Showy Orchid. The picture in Wikipedia shows that mine is pretty pathetic compared to the possibilities, but I love it anyway. There are others in our woods - but this is the only one I can reliably find every year. Others I have to go searching for...

I'll have to keep an eye on it and see if it gets any showier as the days go by. Yesterday when I looked there were just pink nubs sticking up. Who knows what tomorrow may bring?!?
