Tudor gateway

We must have passed this gateway many times over the last 40 years without seeing it! Today was the first time we noticed that it was something rather special.

It stands along the Pilgrims Way, the route taken by travellers in the footsteps of Henry II on their way to pay homage at the Shrine of St Thomas after his murder at Canterbury Cathedral in 1170.

The gateway is all that’s left of a wayside resting place that stood along the route. Nowadays all of the buildings have long since gone, only the gateway remains. It’s typical Tudor complete with low arches, hood mounds and ornamental brickwork and a horse block or mounting stone.

I can report the Fish and Chips we’re very enjoyable. Our neighbours and Doreen throughly enjoyed them. Same again soon. Sorry to make anyone drool.

Otherwise, today was just like last Friday and Joe Wicks had his Heads and Tails HIIT session again: 7 out of 10 were the harder activities in the first half with 6 out of 10 in the second half. Too many tails!
